5 Simple Self-Care Things You Can Do Today
Self-care is a marketing scam. Buy this gold-infused mud facial, buy that calming elixir. Buy this anti-aging bubble bath, buy that over-priced foot massager…It’s a lot of pressure and a lot of cash.
When you’re up to your eyeballs in dirty dishes, dirty laundry and dirty children, applying a gold-infused facial in your an anti-aging bubble bath while drinking a “calming” elixir seems ridiculous. And let’s be honest, impossible.
Self-care has become an illusive idea that’s supposed to save the sanity of all moms while giving you a false sense of “balance,” and the thought of fitting one more thing into your day just makes you feel anxious and defeated.
But I’ll be honest with you, you are important and you need to feel that way. Here’s five simple ideas you can do to start feeling more important today:
Eat a breakfast that makes you feel happy, satisfied and good. Try my Easy Overnight Oats.
Walk outside for 10 minutes, in the sun with the fresh air.
Take five deep breaths. At your desk, in your car, filling your water bottle, picking up toys, doing dishes…you get the idea.
Give yourself a compliment. Get dressed, look in the mirror and say, “You look beautiful today!” (This is the hardest for me, but helps the most.)
Take a break to stretch. Oh hey, you can combine this with #2 or #3! But really, this feels pretty damn good.
Ok, these aren’t going to magically take all your stress away or help you take out the trash, but they will make you feel important for those few seconds or minutes. And that’s really what self care should do for you. You are important, and you deserve to be treated that way.
So over your cold coffee tomorrow morning, take a deep breath and tell yourself you’re doing a great job. Because you are.
